Laser Skin Resurfacing for Dramatically Younger Looking Skin
Age means nothing to you - you're comfortable and confident with who you are and the skin you’re in. But as we age, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles and a softening of the jawline may not reflect our youthful spirits. Being confident doesn’t mean you can’t partake in a little self-care to look and feel your very best.
Laser skin resurfacing treatment works at the surface and in deeper tissue layers to produce new, glowing skin. The treatment can lessen the appearance of blotches, scars, wrinkles, and lines while creating firmer, younger-looking skin.
How does laser skin resurfacing work?
Laser skin resurfacing works in two ways to maximize the effects of treatment. At the surface, the laser resurfaces the skin getting rid of fine lines, dry patches and uneven discolorations. At the same time, the laser energy penetrates to the deeper layers of skin where it triggers the growth of new, young collagen. As the collagen rebuilds, it firms and “plumps” the skin for a more youthful look while it also smoothes wrinkles at the surface.
What Skin issues can laser skin resurfacing treat?
Laser skin resurfacing can address a multitude of concerns, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sagging skin
- Irregular pigmentation
- Sun damage
- Dry skin
- Acne scarring and other topical scars
What should I expect during my laser skin resurfacing treatment?
We perform laser skin resurfacing in the comfort of our offices. During your initial consultation, we’ll talk about the steps you need to take before the procedure to optimize your results.
Depending on the skin issues and treatment areas, you may have local anesthetics, or numbing cream applied for your comfort. Patients report the treatment feels like a series of snaps from a tight rubber band, more irritating than painful.
A typical treatment will last about 30 to 45 minutes.
Is there downtime after laser skin resurfacing treatment?
Immediately after treatment, you may have minor swelling, and your skin may feel warm, as though you have a mild sunburn. Patients can use cold compresses to cool the skin and alleviate swelling. Patients should also sleep with their head elevated to help prevent swelling and to stop them from rolling over and putting pressure or friction on treated facial skin.
Treated skin may begin to flake and peel after five to seven days as old cells are shed. Complete healing takes between 10 days to 3 weeks.
While you are healing, use a recommended hydrating moisturizer and a sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher every day.
When will I see results?
You’ll see results now and look even better as time goes on! Some patients see smoother, softer skin immediately after treatment. As the new cells come to the surface and the supportive collagen grows in the deeper layers, your skin will continue to look smoother, more even and firmer with each passing month for up to a year.
With the proper use of sun protection and a healthy lifestyle, the results of laser skin resurfacing can last for many years. Eventually, the normal aging process will begin again, and you may see lines, wrinkles and uneven tone return. The good news is, you can repeat laser skin resurfacing treatments as needed, whether you want another big boost or want to maintain your results.
